Aluminium (Al) is a silver-coloured, light metal with atomic number 13, density 2.70 g/cm3.
Aluminium, which is the most abundant element on earth after oxygen and silicon, is not found pure in nature; it exists as oxide and silicate compounds.
Aluminium metal production is divided into two as primary and secondary production. Primary aluminium production is obtained from bauxite ores. Secondary aluminium is produced by recycling scrap aluminium.
Primary aluminium production is unprocessed raw aluminium with a metal purity between 99.0% and 99.8%, obtained from bauxite ores by Bayer process and metallurgical quality alumina (Al2O3) and metallic aluminium production process from this alumina by molten salt electrolysis method.
